What is Online English?

Online English courses let you study with a UK accredited school from anywhere in the world. Most are live teacher-led classes delivered by video — small group sessions or one-to-one — with the same teachers and materials used at the school’s in-person courses.

About Online English

Every school listed here is accredited by the British Council, English UK, EAQUALS or ISI. That means inspected teaching standards, qualified teachers, published policies on student welfare, and a recognised certificate at the end. Enquiries go directly to the school — no booking fee, no middleman.

Online courses suit students who want to start learning before they travel to the UK, continue after a UK course, or study with a UK school without travelling at all. Looking for something specific? Browse online IELTS preparation, online business English, online general English or online one-to-one tuition. If you decide to travel, the same schools also run in-person courses in London, Cambridge, Brighton, Manchester and other UK cities.

Questions students ask

How do online English courses from UK schools work?

They’re live, teacher-led video classes — usually on Zoom or Microsoft Teams — running to a fixed weekly timetable. You join from home and learn in a small group (typically 6–12 students) or one-to-one with a UK-based teacher. Most schools use the same syllabus and materials as their in-person courses, so what you study online is the same as what students in the UK classroom study that week.

Are online English courses accredited?

Yes — every school listed on this page is accredited by the British Council, English UK, EAQUALS or ISI. Accreditation covers teaching standards, qualified teachers, student welfare and refund policies. At the end of the course you receive a certificate of attendance and an end-of-course report covering your level and progress. Several courses also prepare you for external exams like IELTS, Cambridge or Pearson PTE.

Can I prepare for IELTS online with a UK school?

Yes. Several UK schools run dedicated online IELTS preparation courses, typically 4–12 weeks long, covering all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and exam technique. Some schools combine general English with IELTS-focused sessions; others offer one-to-one IELTS coaching at flexible times. Browse the IELTS preparation course type for full options.

Do online English courses count toward a UK Student visa?

No. Online courses don’t qualify for a UK Student visa or Short-term Study visa — those are only for in-person courses physically delivered in the UK. The advantage is that anyone, anywhere, can join an online course without visa paperwork. If you want to travel to the UK to study, look at in-person courses instead, or start online and switch to in-person at the same school later.

What equipment do I need for an online course?

A laptop or tablet, a webcam (built-in is fine), a headset or earphones with microphone, and a stable broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps. A quiet room helps. Phones work in a pinch but are awkward for group lessons and writing tasks. Most schools send a short setup guide before your first class and run a tech check on day one.
